Ebonizing, or iron staining, is a chemical reaction between iron and the natural tannins in wood. Rather than using paint or surface stains, ebonizing creates a deep, natural black color within the wood itself.

Spencer Peterman is always on the lookout for fallen trees. Based in Massachusetts, Peterman transforms salvaged wood into functional, one-of-a-kind pieces that showcase their distinctive patterns.

Hand wash with mild soap and towel dry.
Apply mineral oil once a month.
